Nora Baier Releases Debut Album I’ll Find a Way to Pay My Fare
Artist Spotlight: Nora Baier
Artist Name: Nora Baier
City/Country: New York City, United States
What do you do, and how would you describe your work or mission?
I am a singer songwriter and guitarist. My sound blends 60s and 70s folk with 90s grunge and alternative. I write music to connect with people and express emotions honestly, hoping that someone listening can find their own sense of understanding and self expression through my songs.
What inspired you to begin your journey?
I wrote my first song when I was eight years old, but I became serious about songwriting around sixteen. I could not find music that fully captured what I was feeling rage, pain, sadness, and vulnerability. When a great song speaks to you, it feels like someone saying “I understand.” Instead of searching for that feeling, I decided to write my own music by turning poems I wrote into songs.
What challenges have you faced, and how have you navigated them?
One of the biggest challenges has been my ongoing battle with my own mind. I live with bipolar disorder, which inspired my first single “Dirt.” While it can be difficult, I have created meaningful art from those experiences. I am grateful for the people and family around me, and I believe gratitude and kindness toward others are powerful antidotes to sadness.
How does your culture or environment influence your work?
I recently moved to Queens after graduating from SUNY Purchase for music this past winter, though I am originally from Phoenix. My grandfather is from Queens and my father was born there before moving to Arizona. I ended up doing the opposite decades later. Living in New York has been incredibly inspiring. The people here are resilient, driven, and creative, and being surrounded by that energy pushes me to keep striving and creating.
What message do you hope people take from your story?
Life moves in cycles. There are good times, bad times, and everything in between. With something or someone to lean on whether that is a friend, music, or your dreams you can get through anything.
What are you currently building or working toward?
I am working to grow my career and perform as much as possible. I love playing live shows and sharing music with people. I recently released my debut album I’ll Find a Way to Pay My Fare on February 21 after working on it for two years, and I am already excited to start recording the next one.
Where can people find or support your work?
My album I’ll Find a Way to Pay My Fare is available on all streaming platforms and on Bandcamp. You can find my music under my name, Nora Baier. You can also follow me on Instagram @norabaier for updates on live shows and new releases.
Is there anything the world often misunderstands about your field or community?
Many people think music is only worthwhile if you are selling out arenas or signed to a major label. When I write, I am not thinking about those things. Music will always be meaningful to me regardless of the outcome of my career.
What does the future look like for you?
Right now I am settling into life in Queens with my bunny and my boyfriend and continuing to write, record, and perform. I hope to connect with more listeners, tour around the country, and keep releasing new music. Another album is already on the horizon.

New York City based singer songwriter Nora Baier has released her debut album “I’ll Find a Way to Pay My Fare,” a project two years in the making that captures her emotional honesty and distinctive blend of musical influences.
The nine song album reflects Baier’s deeply personal songwriting style. Rooted in 60s and 70s folk with the grit of 90s grunge and alternative, her music balances vulnerability, raw emotion, and storytelling. Baier describes the album as a piece of herself, saying her spirit lives in each song and that she hopes the music keeps listeners company on walks, drives, and quiet moments.
Baier has been writing music since she was eight years old, but became serious about songwriting at sixteen when she struggled to find music that captured what she was feeling. Instead of searching for songs that reflected her emotions, she began writing her own, turning poems into melodies that expressed rage, pain, sadness, and vulnerability.
Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, Baier recently moved to Queens, New York after graduating from SUNY Purchase with a degree in music. Though new to the city, she says being surrounded by the resilience and ambition of New Yorkers has already inspired her creative drive.
Her songwriting is also shaped by her personal challenges. Baier has spoken openly about living with bipolar disorder, a struggle that informed her first single “Dirt.” Despite the difficulties, she views music as both an outlet and a connection point with others, noting that hearing her songs help people through difficult moments is the greatest compliment she could receive.
With I’ll Find a Way to Pay My Fare, Baier hopes to build a growing audience through live performances and independent releases. She is already looking ahead to recording her next album and dreams of touring to share her music across the country.
Her debut album “I’ll Find a Way to Pay My Fare” is available on streaming platforms and Bandcamp, and fans can follow her on Instagram @norabaier for updates on upcoming shows and releases.
